‘Out of Line’ Exhibition by Alison Turnbull January 19, 2020
高円寺書肆サイコロにて、アリソン・ターンブルの日本初個展を行います。
ターンブルはコロンビア生まれのイギリス人作家。現在、ロンドンを拠点に制作活動をしています。Out of line と名付けられた本展では世界中で集めた大量生産のノートを使ったドローイング作品を展示します。ノートと言っても練習帳だったり帳簿だったりグラフ用紙だったり、用途は様々。中には日本製のノートもあります。ターンブルは紙面にあらかじめ印刷された罫線や矩形を丁寧に読み解き、独自の法則性を重ね合わせて、新たな風景を描きこみます。
Out of line, the first solo exhibition in Japan by British artist Alison Turnbull, takes place in Saicoro, Koenji, Tokyo.
Turnbull was born in Bogotá, Colombia and currently lives and works in London, UK. Out of line features work from her ongoing series of drawings made on notebook papers collected in towns and cities around the world. The type of notebooks varies from exercise books to bank ledgers and graph paper and so on. And some of them are from Japan. Turnbull carefully reads the colours, lines and grids originally printed in the notebooks and adds her own layers of understanding, creating new perspectives on paper.

La Wayaka Current August 30, 2019
I was invited by the Artist in Residency programme organized by La Wayaka Current. It takes place in the Atacama Desert in Northern Chile, the site of inspiration for Chilean artist Fernando Casasempere, and is also said to have a similar surface as Mars.
9月末からLa Wayaka Currentというアーティスト・イン・レジデンスに参加します。チリ人彫刻家、フェルナンド・カサセンペーレの作品の背景となった場所であり、木星の地肌にも似ていると言われている、チリ北部のアタカマ砂漠に約１ヶ月間滞在します。

破壊と混沌と再生の土地、南米に招かれて、人生に大きく舵をとり、時間をかけて旅をすることになりました。土地のことを調べれば調べるほど、実際に行ってみないとすまないような課題が湧き上がってきます。それにしても、とにかく遠い。
「どうして私はこんなところに？」
そうつぶやくと、友人のKは言いました。
「まだ、やらなければいけないことがあるんやろな。」

Forum do Futuro 2018 in Porto December 1, 2018
ポルトガルはポルトで行われたForum do Futuro（フォーラム・ド・フトゥーロ）というイベントに参加。哲学者、アーティスト、建築家、パフォーマーなど、多岐にわたる現代芸術の作り手をよんで１週間に渡って市民とともに語り尽くすというもの。そのきっかけとその様子。

It was when I visited Porto in the summer of 2018 for holiday that I learned about the event called Forum do Futuro. I got to know about it from Guillerme, in charge of cultural affairs in Porto as well as organizer of event, and I participated in the small lecture by contemporary artist Tania Bruguera that summer.

Noh lands in Epidaurus October 1, 2017
2015年の夏、ギリシャは経済危機の真っただ中だった。同じ夏、観世流の能楽師になった大学時代の友人、正確にはその一門がギリシャの世界最古の劇場で日本の能を舞うというので、東西の演劇人の情熱に引っ張られて混乱のギリシャに乗り込んだ。招聘先のギリシャ人の演出家によると、能は西欧演劇が失った「見えないものとの交信」を今でも実践しているというのだ。

Back in 2015, the Greece was in confusion. EU announced the critical economic crisis of this country and mentioned that they can ‘no longer support’. Meanwhile, I went to see the Athens Epidaurus Art Festival in Greece same year, the one of the oldest art festivals taken place every summer.

Eiji Oyamatsu, sculptor of 81 years old (in 2015) is about to finish his lifelong works – the wooden sculpture of Virgin Mary. Being Catholic himself, he had determined to make the works of his life time when he was a young sculptor of 35 years old. Ever since, Oyamatsu had spent time and resource to buy the piece of wood to complete this sculpture without knowing where to install after completed.
