南インドで再生型農業を行いながらコットンを栽培するOshadi Collectiveの依頼を受けて、農家とともに土地の恵みを生かしながら、疲弊した土を再生する農業を伝えるZineを制作しました。2024年に取材した、Oshadi Collectiveの再生型農業はその土地に古くから伝わる方法を知る地元の人々に教えを乞いながら、まさにその方法を再生することで実現していったもの。人間の視点だけで見ると、邪魔者と捉えられがちな虫や鳥のための作物を植え、農薬を使うことなく地元の農家とともに布の原材料を栽培しています。シンプル、かつすべての生き物に必要なエネルギーを循環させる農業の方法を、一目でわかるビジュアルにしてくれたのは切り絵作家の伊藤ミサさん。植物、生き物、土の関係性がわかる切り絵によるビジュアルと、永井佳子が南インド料理とOshadi Collectiveの布作りに同時に出会ったきっかけを綴ったエッセイが裏表に印刷されています。
これはOshadi Collectiveが拠点とする南インドの都市イーロードで、コットンの端切れを使って再生した紙に印刷されています。手に取った瞬間に違いを感じる独特のしっとりとした質感が特徴です。

At the request of the Oshadi Collective, who cultivate cotton using regenerative farming methods in South India, we produced a zine to share their approach to farming. This works alongside farmers to use the land’s resources while regenerating depleted soil. I have researched the regenerative agriculture practiced by the Oshadi Collective in 2024, which they realised by learning from local people who knew the methods passed down in that land since ancient times, and by reviving precisely those methods. From a purely Human perspective, it tends to be seen as a pest, planting crops meant for insects and birds, and cultivating raw materials for cloth without using pesticides, together with local farmers. Paper-cut artist Misa Ito has translated this simple agricultural method, which circulates the energy essential for all living things, into instantly comprehensible visuals. The zine features these paper-cut visuals illustrating the relationship between plants, creatures, and soil on one side, and an essay by Yoshiko Nagai detailing how she encountered both South Indian cuisine and Oshadi Collective’s textile production simultaneously.
