「Archeology of the Future」は時間、記憶、空間、場所だけではなく、人間と自然にも関係している。ヒューマニスト的アプローチを大切にするゴットメが手仕事と職人にも注目するのは、土地に息づく伝統はそこに生きる人々の共通の記憶に変わっていくからだ。エストニア国立博物館では祖先の声を聞き、困難な時代の記憶を形にし、レバノンのStone Gardenは紛争の歴史と今なお残る問題を呼び集め、街が抱えてきた数々の過去の出来事を思い起こす起点となった。2020年にベイルートで起きた大爆発は人間の身体がいかに儚い存在であるかということを思い知らせたとともに、都市にさらなる記憶を刻み込んだ。人新世の今、よりよい未来を構築することが早急に求められている。循環経済やエネルギーの自立性が叫ばれるなか、建築はすべてを素材とする共生の未来を実現しなくてはいけない。何一つ、誰一人として忘れ去られてはならない。記憶に残る持続可能な世界をみなで実現するために。
More than a method of work, “Archeology of the future” is a veritable approach to the built landscape invented by Lina Ghotmeh throughout her practice. Founder of Lina — Ghotmeh Architecture, based in Paris, her firm’s designs develop from thorough historical research emerging as exquisite interventions that enliven our memories and senses. In this “Archeology of the future”, every new gesture is drawn from the traces of the past. A link is drawn between Time, Memory, Space and Place, but also between the Humane and Nature. The past meets the future as histories are unearthed and memories excavated to enable questioning, innovation and a more sustainable architecture. Bearing a “humanist” approach, Lina Ghotmeh’s practice emphasizes the work of the hand and artisanship. Through this, the built embraces the traditions of its localities, while uplifting the subjective experience and the collective memory of those it recalls. Projects such as the Estonian National Museum in Tartu, Estonia, find their contexts in difficult pasts, listening to ancestors and promoting their voices to guide us towards better futures. Likewise, “Stone Garden” in Beirut, Lebanon, anchors the city’s eventful past into the present by calling forward its ruins, histories of conflicts and ongoing problematics. Home to inhabitants but also to the Mina Image center, a space dedicated to reflection, debates and exhibitions on the Middle East, the building emerges in this city of layers with an Earth-like envelope, hand-chiseled by artisans fleeing neighboring wars. Its skin is further imprinted in 2020 by the Beirut explosion in the nearby port, an event that calls into question the ephemerality of our breathing bodies and their relationship to the built one. In the epoch of the Anthropocene, the urgency of building better futures becomes louder. From circular economies to energetic autonomies, the mission of architecture is to achieve a future of symbiosis where everything is a resource; Nothing and no one is forgotten, living in a memorable and sustainable world that includes every body.
レバノン、ベイルート生まれ。レバノン市民戦争の傷跡の残る街で幼少期を過ごし、考古学者に憧れを持ちつつベイルートで建築を学んだ後、パリ高等建築大学で学び、2008年から2015年まで同大学で教鞭をとる。2005年エストニアの国立美術館のコンペを取ったあと、パリでDGT Architectsを設立。2016年Lina Ghotmeth – Architecture設立。マルチカルチュアルでありつつ、現代社会が抱える課題に挑む先見的なアプローチが高く評価されている。土地のもつ歴史に関するリサーチと記憶と感覚を呼び覚ますような美しい表現を通じて、どんな新しい行為も過去からの積み重なりでなされているという「Archeology of the Future」という考えを実践している。
Born in Beirut in 1980’s, Lina Ghotmeh grew up in this ancient cosmopolitan city marked by the scars of the Lebanese civil war. Although she wanted to become an archaeologist, Lina carried out her architectural studies at the American University of Beirut, where she looked at the notions of memory, space and landscape through her own methodology entitled « Archeology of the future ». Lina pursues her education at the École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris where she takes on a teaching role as an Associate Professor between 2008 and 2015.
In 2005, she wins the international competition for the design of the National Estonian Museum. After this victory, she co-founded her first agency DGT Architects in Paris and lead the realization of the large scale project of the National Museum. Acclaimed unanimously by the international press and having won prestigious awards (Grand prix AFEX 2016; nominated for the Mies Van der Rohe Award 2017), the museum became the symbol for an avant-guardist architecture, combining pertinence and subtlety.

Hamacho Liberal Arts is a study group taken place at Hamacho LAB. 1F, Tokyo, initiated by architect o+h. By having the opportunity to talk with people who create the values, such as artist, designer, architects, editor, curator etc., and share the process of their project, it aim to broaden the view that is otherwise being limited by their specialities and become an opportunity to unlearn and relearn for people in all levels of social practice.
